A 2020 media manipulation survey by the Oxford Internet Institute had identified Malaysia as one of the 81 countries with disinformation being produced on an “industrial scale” by governments, political parties, and the PR firms they hire. To what extent do these homegrown disinformation operations pose a threat to democracy? And as participants of the digital information society, do we understand cybertroopers work to influence online public discussions?
