'These things are so temperamental!': King Charles appears to make light-hearted reference to his string of pen mishaps as he shares joke with Queen Consort Camilla while signing visitors book at Dunfermline Abbey

The monarch and the Queen Consort Camilla are in Scotland where they declared Dunfermline a new city before heading to Edinburgh for more events. Before they left Fife this afternoon the couple signed a visitor's book (pictured left) where the King appeared to make a light-hearted reference to his recent viral tussles with pens on official engagements (pictured bottom right). Handing the writing implement to his wife he laughingly seemed to say: 'These things are so temperamental'. The King's joke came after he was seen venting frustration over pens which leak 'every stinking time' while signing a visitors' book last month. It followed Charles's animated scenes at St James's Palace, where he frantically motioned to an aide to move a pen box from his desk which was getting in his way as he went to sign the historic Proclamation declaring him King.
