Fishing festival is celebrated in Thiruvathavur in Mudurai district. People are so thrilled about this, that on the appointed day, they go down to the nearby ponds, then whether children, old people and women, when they look joyful in this festival. People catch fish in a big way on this day. In keeping with this tradition of catching fish, women sing songs together. People joke with each other and there is a competition between them to catch as many fish as possible.

मुदुरै जिले के थिरुवथावुर में मछली पकड़ने का उत्सव मनाया जाता है। इसे लेकर लोग ऐसे रोमांचित रहते हैं, कि तय दिन को भोर से ही आस-पास के तालाबों में उतर जाते हैं, फिर क्या बच्चे, क्या बुज़ुर्ग और क्या महिलाएं, जब इस उत्सव में आनंदित दिखते हैं। लोग इस दिन खूब जम कर मछलियां पकड़ते हैं। मछलियों को पकड़ेने की इस परंपरा को निभाते हुए महिलाएं साथ मिल कर गीत भी गुनगुनाती हैं। लोग आपस में मज़ाक करते हैं और उनके बीच ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा मछलियां पकड़ने की होड़ दिखाई देती है।
