As Crimea headed towards leaving Ukraine to become part of Russia, there were many who still felt both fear and hatred towards Moscow.
Tatars have lived in Crimea for centuries but they were labelled as Nazis by Stalin in WW2 and deported - many dying on the 18-day forced journey away from their homeland.
One woman, deported when she was just 12, said Putin was trying to grab what wasn't his as he effectively annexed Crimea in 2014.
