Macchat mamankam : http://www.neelaearth.com The Macchat mamangam, the five-day annual festival at the Machattu Thiruvanikavu Temple in Thrissur, near Vadakkancheri, is one of the most famous festivals of Central Kerala. During the festival, devotees by the hundreds stay awake through the night to welcome Kavilamma the presiding goddess of the temple and the one responsible for all prosperity in their lives. The highlights of the festival include the kuthiravela - richly decorated motifs of horses are brought ceremoniously to the temple by devotees as offerings, panchavadyam by famous artists, Chendamelam, elephant pageants and cultural programmes and so on.
