हिन्दू पंचांग में फाल्गुन माह का विशेष महत्व है क्योंकि इस महीने में ही होली का पावन त्यौहार आता है। फुलेरा दूज के दिन से ही होली के पर्व की शुरुआत हो जाती है। इसी शुभ दिन पर भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने मथुरा में फूलों की होली खेली थी। तभी से मथुरा में फुलेरा दूज को बड़ी धूम-धाम से मनाया जाता है। ब्रज, मथुरा और आस पास के क्षेत्रों में फुलेरा दूज काफी उत्साह और खुशहाली से मनाया जाता है। इसके साथ ही फुलेरा दूज साल का अबूझ मुहूर्त होता है, इस दिन कोई भी शुभ कार्य किया जा सकता है। इस दिन शादी, सगाई, मुंडन, मकान या जमीन की खरीददारी आदि कोई भी कार्य किया जा सकता है, क्योंंकि इस दिन का हर क्षण शुभ होता है। कहा जाता है कि इस दिन राधा कृष्ण का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है और सभी परेशानियां दूर होती हैं।
