Dig (2011) short film

Coming-of-Age short films, particularly when shot with as much imagination as this one, are truly visual masterpieces. Philip Hodges' film Dig combines puppetry and stop-motion footage as a narrative element. As a result, the picture is endearing to children while also transporting many adults back to their childhood days. The passages in which Doug meets the creatures of the underworld remind me of Alice in Wonderland - a little surrealism and magic, and a guaranteed smile. There is a lot of stuff to admire about Dig, aside from the amusing tale. It has nice special effects, lovely colors, a cute youthful cast, and, of course, a clever finale!
Language: English. Subtitles: German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese.
