ओवेरियन यानि गर्भाश्य का कैंसर तब होता है जब अंडाशय में असामान्य कोशिकाएं नियंत्रण से बाहर होने लगती हैं और ट्यूमर का निर्माण करती हैं। अगर समय रहते इसका इलाज ना किया जाए तो ट्यूमर शरीर के अन्य भागों में फैल सकता है, जिसे इसे मेटास्टैटिक ओवेरियन कैंसर कहा जाता है। शोध के मानें तो भारत में 80% महिलाएं इसकी जानकारी से अंजान है, जिसके कारण यह जानलेवा बन जाता है। किन महिलाओं को अधिक खतरा -जनेटिक, बढ़ती उम्र, प्रजनन हिस्ट्री (reproductive history) और मोटापा -इंफर्टिलिटी का लंबा ट्रीटमेंट -बच्चा न होना, हॉर्मोन रिप्लेसमेंट थेरेपी या एंडोमेट्रियोसिस का निदान करने वाली महिलाओं को इसका अदिक खतरा रहता है।
