Clean beaches return to Philippine island after Covid-19 pauses tourism

Clean beaches and previously dwindling wildlife populations are returning to Boracay, an ‘island paradise’ of the Philippines. As the country continues to be closed off from international tourists due to the pandemic, the island is starting to recover from earlier environmental impacts of over-tourism, including garbage pile-ups, rampant land encroachment, traffic and air pollution.
