Hewat Sadat, not his real name, worked as a translator for a foreign organization and is one of those Afghans high on the Taliban’s murderous list. He is no longer in country now and is in a safe place. But he has family and friends back in his homeland and is desperately trying to get them out of country. In this interview, he tells Outlook’s Simi Chakrabarti of watching horror unfold in lightning speed as the Taliban overran his country, taking over Kabul just 5 days before Afghanistan’s Independence Day, his sense of betrayal from his leaders and the USA and what was life under the Taliban like.
