In the past, the one who directed what was done in a company was the boss, the one with high hierarchy who asked what was required of the employees who obeyed everything, even if they did not like it, because it is considered that he or she was absolutely right and it was not to be discussed. Today this no longer happens.
Now, companies refer to leaders, those who make the company grow, know how to lead work teams, help employees to grow, listen to them and take their initiatives into account, and inspire others, a role that few know how to exercise but it is not impossible to learn.
The leader is born in part and in another is made. The perfect leader is not born, he has to be made. Sometimes it is easier if you have a predisposition but you have to train.
To become a leader, three things are required: be good at what you want to lead, develop soft skills such as knowing how to negotiate and deal with others, and have well-founded ethics and values.
For this, training with books, coaching, knowing success stories and, if possible, receiving the impetus from the company is required. At heart, leadership is like learning a language, because if you stop practicing it, you forget.
The characteristics of a good leader:
The first is agility. In a digital world like the one we live in, the leader must be agile to adapt to changes and not wait.
The second is learning, constant preparation and continuing to learn every day. We have to spend our lives learning.
In the third point is anticipation, being aware that what was revolutionary yesterday is obsolete today. You have to be ready to understand the technology and what is coming.
The fourth is positivity, always be optimistic, especially when judging people.
The fifth is to avoid living in a world in a hurry, to sit and think about where you are going and the personal and organizational sense.
The sixth is to be prudent, think long term and not live in the immediacy. The seventh has to do with being trustworthy and the eighth has to do with empathy.
The last point, one of the most important, is humility and the ability to learn from everyone.
The enemy of the leader
In the world of leadership there are many role models, but there are others who pretend to be leaders when they are really manipulative, who harm the organization rather than benefit it; How to detect them?
A leader is one who generates commitment and makes people want to do what they should, inspires them. The manipulator is the one who arrives at a group and moves it to a worse place than where they were. The leader turns them into teams and takes them to a better place.
The signs that give away the manipulator are the lack of ethics, they demand things that they do not do, they think about themselves and others do not follow them.
