Pana Sankranti/Maha Bisuba Sankranti / marks the beginning of a new year in Odia calendar. On this Odia New Year day, a new almanac or ‘Panji’ comes into effect. Pana Sankranti is also known as the Maha Bisuba Sankranti – the name whose etymology can be traced to the Visuva Rekha, the Equator.
