Martinique takes steps to save endemic iguana from extinction

The Chancel islet in Martinique is the last refuge of the lesser Antillean iguana, which is threatened by a related invasive species, the common iguana, imported from Latin America in the 1960s. The National Forest Office (ONF) has launched a preservation plan for the iguana in an attempt to prevent the "stronger and more adaptive" common iguana from expanding further.
