उत्तराखंड के चमोली जिले में ऋषिगंगा के ऊपरी क्षेत्र में ग्लेशियर टूटने से भारी तबाही हुई. कई लोग बाढ़ के चलते मंझदार में फंस गए तो कई लोगों की जान चली गई. बाढ़ की वजह से ऋषिगंगा नदी पर 13.2 मेगावाट की पनबिजली परियोजना बह गई है. अब बीजेपी नेता उमा भारती ने चमोली ग्लेशियर आपदा पर दुख व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि ग्लेशियर टूटने के कारण हुई त्रासदी चिंता का विषय होने के साथ-साथ चेतावनी भी है. उमा भारती ने कहा कि मंत्री रहते हुए वो गंगा और उसकी मुख्य सहायक नदियों पर बांध बनाकर पनबिजली परियोजनाएं लगाने के खिलाफ थीं.
