Storyline:
"In present day East London, Will Kane is a med. school drop out, and existential loner whose hate of the system has led him to drifting into low and high line crime capers, with best bud Ricky Hammond in tow. With action in short supply, they agree to take a mule job from reliable French connection Pierre, who is doing small drug jobs for two East-End gangsters, who also happen to be local rivals: Tudor Barro and Willie C.. When Pierre dies, due to overeating for a mule job he was about to perform (67 packets of condoms filled with heroin), Will and Ricky recover the drugs through grizzly means which involve a knife, and some crude medical know-how. With London big-wig Willie C., also an old friend of Will's, suspecting that they killed Pierre in order to pilfer the drugs, all h*ll breaks loose. "Give and Take, and Take is about Will Kane (an understandable reference to Gary Cooper's character in High Noon) and Ricky Hammond (a ref to 48 Hours? - This is a kind of buddy movie afterall), two likeable crooks doing little errands for gangsters in London's famous East End. After they decide to cut open an old, dead friend of theirs to retrieve condoms full of heroin from his gut, events turn nihilistic (more so!).
A colorful, imaginative low budget crime action film, there is a clever balance of genuine plot and intense action too. I spotted knowing references in there to LA Confidential, Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrells, Heat, True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, Alfie, El Mariachi, King Of New York and Mean Streets. I think the film makers probably want that to be part of the fun. See how many you can spot!
