미 합참의장 “주한미군 등 해외 미군, 영구주둔 재검토 필요”

A top U.S. military officer says Washington should reconsider its long practice of stationing troops and their families in allied countries, including South Korea.
During an online briefing on Thursday, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said the military should be more selective and rotational rather than permanent.
Milley said if there's an armed conflict with Pyeongyang, there would be a "significant amount of non-combatant U.S. military dependents in harm's way."
His remarks also come amid ongoing cost-sharing negotiations between Seoul and Washington. The U.S. is demanding that South Korea pays more to keep some 28-thousand American troops on the Korean peninsula.
