Soil is home to more than one-fourth of the Earth's biodiversity. World Soil Day on December 5 is one of the key dates on the UN calendar when outreach activities globally try to bring governments, businesses, non-profit groups, scientists and the people on the same page to understand the causes of soil erosion, soil pollution and how we can encourage soil conservation at the local level.

हर साल 5 दिसंबर को दुनिया भर में विश्व मृदा दिवस मनाया जाता है. यानि कि वर्ल्ड Soil Day। इस दिवस को मनाने का उदेश्य किसानो के साथ आम लोगों को मिट्टी की महत्ता के बारे में जागरूक करना है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा के द्वारा इस वर्ष की थीम “मिट्टी को जीवित रखें–मिट्टी की जैव विविधता का संरक्षण करें” रखा गया है। दिसंबर 2013 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने 68वीं सामान्य सभा की बैठक में पारित संकल्प के द्वारा 05 दिसंबर को विश्व मृदा दिवस मनाने का संकल्प लिया गया था।
