'Inexhaustible lasers': Boris Johnson's plan for defence after budget boost

The prime minister has announced that the Ministry of Defence will get an extra £24.1bn over the next four years, which is £16.5bn more than the Conservatives promised in their manifesto. The increase will take defence spending to 2.2% of GDP, above the Nato target of 2%, Johnson said in a remote address to the House of Commons from self-isolation in Downing Street
