Supreme Court Directs CBI To Probe Sushant Singh Rajput Case, Setback For Mumbai Police

CBI will take over the investigation into actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, the Supreme Court ordered on August 19. SC asked the Mumbai police to hand over all evidence it has collected to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In a win for Bihar in its tussle with Maharashtra, SC also said the FIR registered in Patna based on a complaint filed by Sushant Singh's father was correct. SC said that Bihar was competent to ask the CBI to investigate the case. A "fair, competent and impartial probe" is the need of the hour to stop speculation, said the top court. “After the judgement, I am confident that Sushant Singh Rajput and his family will get justice,” said Nitish Kumar to India Today. Minutes after the Supreme Court order the state's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted that their stand has been ‘vindicated’. Many Bollywood celebs also reacted to the order. Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde said that Rhea will appear and face the investigation by CBI. Sushant’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande also tweeted after the SC order. Maharashtra has been asked to cooperate with the CBI probe and provide all assistance. If any other case was registered in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's death, it would also be probed by the CBI, the top court said. Reports suggest that the CBI SIT will reach Mumbai on August 20 to start the probe.
