The knot around Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan government over the gold smuggling scandal is only tightening. Investigative agencies are now looking into the call records data of the key accused Swapna Suresh and Sarith Kumar.On the other hand, contact between Sarith Kumar and the CM's principal secretary, M Sivasankar, was made at least 13 to 14 times either through calls or text messages.NIA informed the special court that Suresh and Nair forged the seal and emblem of the UAE Embassy to commit the crime. Moreover, it argued that the smuggled gold was not used for jewellery purpose, but for terror activities. Suresh and Nair shall remain in NIA custody till July 21.
According to the Call Detail Record (CDR) shown by TV channels on Tuesday, Higher Education Minister K T Jaleel made several lengthy calls to Swapna Suresh, the second accused in the gold smuggling case which is being probed by NIA and Customs.As per sources, National security advisor Ajit Doval has collected details from the finance ministry on the gold smuggling.
The former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, M. Sivasankar, home after interviewing him for several hours at its office in Thiruvananthapuram.The department had questioned him in connection with the smuggling of gold.Officials said Mr. Sivasankar had answered in detail on his association with Swapna Suresh, the second accused in the smuggling case.
