소녀상, 베를리너의 일상속으로…獨공공장소 첫 설립

Berlin, Germany has installed a new statue memorializing the Korean women and girls who were sexually enslaved by Japan during World War Two.
This is the third statue in Germany of the so-called "comfort women," but it's the first one set up in a public place.
The statue can be found at the intersection of Birkenstrasse and Bremerstrasse, which is near lots of cafes and restaurants and gets a lot of foot traffic.
The local Korean civic group that went through the difficult process of getting approval... emphasized that the sexual slavery issue is one that affects women and girls around the world.
And because the Japanese government would oppose setting up the statue, the approval process from the start had to be done with a priority on security.
