South Korean coronavirus infection cases are on a downward trend.
In just eight days, daily infections have dropped from 4-hundred-41 to the 1-hundred-range, but officials worry that the numbers are taking longer than expected to fall back into double-digits.
Our Kim Yeon-seung reports.
One-hundred-55 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Thursday in South Korea.
One-hundred-41 were locally transmitted, with 46 of them in Seoul.
10 of those new cases come from a cluster infection in Yonsei Severance Hospital.
New daily numbers have been in the 100 to 200 range for eight straight days now.
Although this is a significant drop from late August, when the nation saw almost 4-hundred-50 new infections in a single day, officials continue to warn against complacency.
They say sporadic cluster infections can unexpectedly pop up from small gatherings and markets, and spread through friends and family quickly.
They add that a false sense of security might see South Korea slip back into a fresh virus-related nightmare.
"Please remember the merchants who had to their close shops and are now in despair. Please think of our children who can't meet their friends even in the second semester."
Health officials are doing everything they can to contain the virus, but they say the entire nation has to cooperate with the government's prevention measures to bring the number of cases down.
After monitoring the numbers over this coming weekend, officials will announce whether the level 2-point-5 social distancing measures will be extended or lowered in the greater Seoul area.
Officials are strongly urging people to stay at home for the last four days of this week.
