Beijing warned of the possibility of a "military accident" if the United States allowed a ship to enter the South China Sea.
Beijing warned of the possibility of a "military accident" against what China described as a "provocation" by the United States after it brought the USS Mustin into waters that Beijing called Tay Sa island and defiantly claimed to be their "territorial sea" but in fact the Hoang Sa archipelago (under Vietnamese sovereignty but was illegally occupied by China) on August 27, according to Sputnik radio.
"Ignoring the provisions of international law, the US side has repeatedly disrupted in the South China Sea, exercising maritime hegemony on the grounds of freedom of navigation. We urge the US to stop such provocations. and limit actions at sea to avoid possible military accidents, "said Senior Lieutenant Colonel Li Huamin, spokesman for the PLA's Southern War Zone Command.
