가로수 쓰러지고 도로 잠겨…광주•전남 태풍 피해

Staying with the latest on the typhoon,...
After sweeping southern parts of the country, Typhoon Bavi has also caused damage in the city of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do Province.
Kim Dami has the details.
Typhoon Bavi continues to leave scars on the landscape on its way north, and Gwangju and Jellonam-do Province were no exceptions.
A signboard at a gas station in the province was blown off Wednesday night.
A hundred other cases of damage were reported overnight.
A tree fell and blocked a road for an hour, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
In Gwangju, thousands of homes lost power.
Due to strong winds and rough seas, flights and ferries in these regions have been canceled.
Typhoon Bolaven back in 2012, which showed a similar path to Bavi, caused over five-hundred million U.S. dollars of damage.
In Jeju, South Korea's southern island, the first hit by the typhoon, an outer wall of an apartment building ripped off and damaged a car parked nearby.
No casualties were reported.
Traffic lights and CCTV cameras also succumbed to the winds of over 30 meters a second.
That's strong enough to rip off roof tiles.
"So many damage reports have been filed because it's a typhoon."
One of the four main rivers on Jeju almost reached its two-meter flood level, forcing nearby residents to leave their homes.
"The wind was really strong and the water level rose so fast that the evacuation process was challenging."
On top of the damage, thousands of people were stranded at Jeju International Airport following the cancellation of all flights going in and out.
