U.S. company Johnson & Johnson says it could produce one billion doses of its potential COVID-19 vaccine next year if it proves successful. The company says it will consider testing it on health volunteers if there aren't enough patients for final trials. Johnson & Johnson started early-stage human safety trials in July after releasing details of a study on monkeys that showed its best-performing candidate offered strong protection in a single dose. Large-scale trials are set to start in early October. We should know if it's effective sometime between the end of this year and mid-2021.
