Hassan is a city and the district headquarters of Hassan district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town is situated 980 m above sea level. It is named after the Hasanamba temple. The urban population in 2011 was 133,436. Hassan city gets its name from the Hindu goddess Hassanamba.
