पीयूष चावला जब महज 16 साल के थे तब पहली बार उन्होने सचिन तेंदुलकर को गेंदबाजी की थी। 2005 में चैलेंजर ट्रॉफी का मैच था। सचिन तब तक लीजेंडरी क्रिकेटर का दर्जा हासिल कर चुके थे। पीयूष को अंतरराष्ट्रीय डेब्यू करना था, लेकिन इस लेग स्पिनर ने पूर्व भारतीय बल्लेबाज को टूर्नामेंट के फाइनल में 22 रन पर आउट कर दिया। इंडिया सीनियर यह मैच तीन विकेट से जीत गई।
