June 10, 1983, they scripted a famous win that ended West Indies’ unbeaten run in the tournament. When the World Cup started, however, nobody gave India a chance. They had played 6 matches in the first two World Cups, losing 5. Yashpal was eventually bowled by Holding for a 120-ball 89 that included nine boundaries. Madan Lal had some blows towards the end, and India finished on 262 for 6. Patil’s 36 remained the second-highest score of the innings. West Indies were bowled out for 228 and India won the match by 34 runs.

10 जून 1983. विश्वकप का साल था. कपिल देव की कप्तानी में टीम इंडिया विश्वकप खेलने गयी थी. सभी लोग जानते हैं कि 25 जून को भारत ने विश्वकप का खिताब अपने नाम किया था. फाइनल में भारत ने विंडीज को हराकर ये विश्वकप जीता था. लेकिन, बहुत कम ही लोगों को पता होगा कि फाइनल मुकाबले से पहले ग्रुप मैच में भी भारत ने विंडीज को पटका था. उस वक्त वेस्टइंडीज की टीम डिफेंडिंग चैम्पियन थी. लगातार दो विश्वकप जीतकर टीम हैट्रिक लगाने के इरादे से टूर्नामेंट में उत्तरी थी. तब तक वेस्टइंडीज विश्वकप में एक भी मैच नहीं हारा था. जबकि भारत ने पिछले दो विश्वकप में छह मैच खेले थे. जिसमें पांच मुकाबलों में टीम को हार का सामना करना पड़ा था.
