While prices of staple foods in South Korea mostly rose following increased demand for home-cooked meals, fruit prices fell for the 10th month in a row. According to Statistics Korea on Tuesday, the consumer price index for fruit in May was 1-hundred-11-point-43... a 4-point-9-percent fall from the same month the previous year. Korean consumers in May bought more groceries like meat, fish and vegetables due to social distancing measures amid COVID-19. Disaster relief money also contributed to the increase in meat consumption, bumping the price up 7-percent from the year before. Fruit, on the other hand, saw a drop as bumper crops increased supply.
