K콘텐츠 수출 중 으뜸은 게임... 한국 게임 해외 수출 현황

The lockdowns in many countries have driven a boost in sales of computer games as people look for ways to keep themselves entertained at home.
For Korea's game industry, this has led to a significant rise in exports, as our Kim Bo-kyoung reports.
Who is playing computer games these days?
Lots of people, it seems, as analytic firms say there was a worldwide spike in mobile game downloads during the first three months of this year, with mobile games downloaded 12-point-three billion times, an 18 percent increase on-year.
Korean games companies, which have expanded aggressively in the global market over the past few years, are reaping the rewards of this trend.
"The Korean game industry's total exports amounted to six-point-four billion U.S. dollars in 2018. That's more than twice what it was in 2014."
“One of country’s major online game publishers Nexon,... saw around two-billion US dollars of sales last year,... with more than 60-percent of that coming from outside of Korea.”
Nexon's most popular game globally is 'Dungeon and Fighter',... a 2-D action game that has been leading global market sales for more than 10 years.
Mobile game 'Kartrider Rush Plus' has also been released overseas recently, gaining popularity in Taiwan.
"This summer we are to release mobile-version of 'Dungeon and Fighter' in China. We are also getting ready to release 'Kartrider Drift' globally within this year,... which enables cross-play between consoles and PCs for the first time in this country."
Game publisher NCSOFT has also been releasing its games in around 60 countries around the world.
"The most popular game in the global market is the 'Guild Wars franchise' released in 2005. It sold than seven-million copies and its sequel 'Guild Wars 2' had more than 11-million user accounts."
NCSOFT says it will continue to expand into Europe and North America,... for example by releasing an interactive music game 'Fuser' in the second half of the year.
