China warns US of ‘strong response’ regarding Taiwan, saying island’s independence is 'dead end'

A Beijing official has accused Washington of damaging cross-strait and US-China relations after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo congratulated Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on her inauguration for a second term in office. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman also warned of actions against the US in his remarks made on May 20, 2020.
