In Numbers: A Look at Past Coronavirus Diseases

The COVID-19 pandemic has swept across the globe. It is caused by the SARS-CoV-2, a new strain from the coronavirus family. Past outbreaks have also been caused by viruses from this family: the MERS outbreaks of 2012 and the SARS epidemic of 2003. Each disease affected a different number of countries, people, and took the lives of many. We compare just how different those numbers are.
