The nomination of former CJI Ranjan Gogoi as a member of the Rajya Sabha on 16 March has raised serious questions about the independence of the judiciary. Though such things have happened before, the flurry of pro-government orders by CJI Gogoi before his retirement appears to have been rewarded.
