A family on vacation comes to a fork in the road. The two roads lead to different towns. They must choose which road to take, but they need a little help. Who would be most likely to give them the best advice: A mayor of one of the towns, a business owner in one of the towns, or a farmer that lives between the two towns? Most people would probably pick the farmer. Obviously the business owner and mayor-politician have self-serving interests. Setting all other variables aside, only the business owner should have a self-serving interest. Our challenge? How to make the mayor more selfless, and convince the reader why we should not change the business owner. The process that determines who will serve us in government is poorly designed to accomplish what we desire: selfless and moral representation. Politics of self interest has transformed our democracy. No longer is holding office seen as a selfless duty. Instead, politics has become more about money, power, and glory. Our system of government is reverting back to authoritarianism. Farewell to Forlorn Hope presents a proposal that injects selfless duty and honor back into our government.
