Taiwan shows off its military power after presidential election

Taiwan has held a two-day drill, in its first demonstration of military might following the island’s presidential elections on January 11, 2020. Since her re-election in the polls, President Tsai Ing-wen has said Taiwan is already independent as she warned that any invasion would be “very costly” for the Chinese mainland. Beijing regards Taiwan as a part of China, but polls in the self-ruled island show a growing number of Taiwanese insist on keeping an identity separate from the mainland.
