Donald Trump has become only the third US president in history to be impeached in a simple majority vote along a sharply divided political party line in the Democratic-led House of Representatives. The House vote on December 18, 2019, moved the two articles of impeachment on for a trial in the Senate as early as in January 2020. The Republican-controlled upper chamber is not expected to vote to remove Trump from office.
