Andhra Pradesh DGP instructs police stations to implement zero FIR rule

Police stations in Andhra Pradesh have been instructed to implement zero FIR rule, which provides for the registration of First Information Report (FIR) in cognizable offences even if the matter has not occurred their jurisdiction. Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang said, “At every police station irrespective of the jurisdiction as to where the offence has taken place if there is any report of the cognizable offence, instructions have been given that cases will be registered.” He further said, “In case the FIR is not registered, the concerned officers would be liable & cases will be registered against them apart from departmental action, and not only the concerned officers but supervisory officers as well.”
