Trump administration open to idea of war-separated family reunions: U.S. East Asia envoy
  • 5 years ago
America's top official on East Asia is sounding positive about the idea of holding reunions for Korean-Americans and their long-lost families in North Korea.
The Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs, David Stillwell, was testifying Wednesday to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he said reunions with Korean-Americans would be a "great idea," and said he would pass it on to the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, Stephen Biegun.
Stillwell was responding to Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman... who suggested in the hearing that the Trump administration should pursue a reunion, saying nearly 100-thousand Koreans in the U.S. have relatives in the North they haven't seen since the war.
