BI eyes handcuffing unruly passengers

MANILA - The head of the Bureau of Immigration is looking to give handcuffs to BI personnel who deal with unruly, violent passengers. Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison said giving handcuffs to BI personnel can protect both passengers and immigration officials from aggression. "Ang aming SOP talaga we will exercise maximum restraint. Hindi trabaho ng lingkod bayan ang manakit ng kahit sino kaya nga may panukala ang airport operations na kung pwede mabigyan ng posas para may proteksyon yung pasehero and immigration officer sa airport," he said in an interview on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda. The bureau has already suspended an employee that was seen on video slapping a Chinese woman at the NAIA Terminal 3. A cellphone video showed Rashid Rangiris, a contractual employee assigned at the intelligence division, hitting Chinese national Jiang Hui-Xiang who was barred from entering the country. Jiang is also seen hitting and kicking Rashid as he tried to escort her to an exclusion room where she would be processed for deportation. Rangiris was temporarily relieved pending investigation into the incident and may face administrative sanctions. MORNINGS@ANC, May 8, 2014
