'Yolanda' damage at P11-B; death toll at 3,982

MANILA - The death toll from typhoon Yolanda has risen slightly. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 3,982 people died, most of them from Leyte. Total number of injured is at 18,266 while 1,602 remain missing. The NDRRMC said more than 10 million people were affected by Yolanda with over 4 million now in various evacuation centers. The cost of damage is now pegged at over P11 billion, with damage to agriculture worth P9 billion alone. The figures are still expected to rise as authorities assess more areas in the typhoon-affected region. NDRRMC Executive Director Eduardo del Rosario told ANC the delivery of aid to hard-hit areas has improved over the last few days. MORNINGS@ANC, November 19, 2013
