Officials are trying to hasten relief efforts in typhoon-hit areas in Visayas. Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said 38 out of 40 towns in Leyte have received aid coming from the Tacloban and Ormoc hubs. He added helicopters have been tapped to bring relief to hard-hit areas in Eastern Samar, particularly the towns of Hernani, Salcedo, Guiuan and Balangiga.
