日本における士農工商とは、江戸時代の職業に基づいて作られた身分制度です。士農工商は武士、農民、職人、商人を指し、それらを合わせ四民と呼ばれています。職業別の身分制度を示した用語として考えられていた士農工商は実際は考えられていた概念よりもかけ離れたものであったということが研究によって判明しました。
