Iran says it hopes South Korea will not join a U.S.-led military coalition for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
This according to an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson in an interview with Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency... which came after defense talks were held between Seoul and Washington last Friday.
During that meeting, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper asked for Seoul's cooperation to ensure freedom of navigation in the strait.
This is the first time... Iran has mentioned South Korea regarding the matter,… asking it to take a neutral stance rather than intervening.
The spokesperson also noted that Iran and South Korea have enjoyed very good diplomatic relations... and it does not want ties to sour.
