Media reports from Hong Kong suggest that at least 14,000 people from more than 20 sectors have committed to the strike, crippling parts of the city.

The strike comes after another weekend of violent protests, which the government said were pushing the city to "an extremely dangerous edge".

An estimated 200 flights have been cancelled due to aviation workers reportedly joining the strike, leaving hundreds of people stranded at the airport.
