S. Korean government to unveil support plan to tackle Japan's trade restrictions this month

South Korea's finance chief says... the government will unveil comprehensive measures to support local firms in the wake of Japan's export restrictions.
Speaking at a parliamentary meeting Thursday,... finance minister Hong Nam-ki said the plan will hopefully make Korea's materials and parts industries more competitive,... and achieve self-sufficiency.
Hong added the government has been analyzing the possible impact... of Tokyo's removal of Korea from its list of so-called "white countries",... and discussing possible countermeasures.
He also said... that should Japan's export controls persist,... it could weigh on the country's economic growth.
