The UNSC's North Korea sanctions committee recently approved Seoul's request to dismantle a vessel being held in South Korea for illegal ship-to-ship transfers of oil products to the North. It has been held in Pyeongtaek since December 2017. The nation asked for the UN's approval to scrap the ship in mid-May. This is the first time that a vessel is being destroyed for violating UN sanctions. According to Seoul's foreign ministry, the case will send a clear message to the international community what measures will be taken against such violators.
