Google 3D prints historic 'Lion of Mosul' statue destroyed by IS

London’s Imperial War Museum, together with Google, showcased a 3D-printed version of the Lion of Mosul statue, which was destroyed by the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).
Google Arts and Culture used crowdsourced photographs and a 3D printer to recreate the historically significant statue, which once stood outside Iraq’s Temple of Nimrud but was destroyed by the Islamic State while it was on display at the Mosul Museum in 2015. The exhibition, entitled ‘What Remains,’ opens on Friday and runs for a six-month period.
