United Nations expert on human rights issues in North Korea...Tomas Ojea Quintana, who is visiting Seoul this week ... praised Seoul's recent moves to provide humanitarian aid to Pyeongyang... and called for more international efforts to ease food shortages in the North.
"We discussed the importance of the peace process of the inter-Korean negotiations, and I reiterated the need to bring North Korean human rights concerns to the negotiations framework. I welcome the decision to release to North Korea the pledged humanitarian aid, which should never be subject to politicization."
He's referring to Seoul's decision earlier this week to provide 50-thousand tons of rice as food assistance via the World Food Programme... on top of an 8-million U.S. dollar contribution Seoul made to the UN for humanitarian assistance last month.
This is Quintana's sixth mission to Seoul... and his findings to the UN General Assembly is slated for October.
