Our cat, is one of the smartest house cats I have ever seen. She is constantly studying human behavior, and always copying it. She is also one of the silliest kitties I know, and is approx. 6 years old. I adopted her when she was probably 9-11 month old. She eventually, after watching people use the toilet, decided that the cat box was indeed, just for cats, and trained herself to use the toilet.
