On Monday, former Boston Red Sox slugger David “Big Papi” Ortiz was recovering in a Santo Domingo hospital after being shot on Sunday.
According to Reuters, Ortiz was seated at a club when a gunman opened fire, and a bullet hit him in the back.
According to CBS and Ortiz’s father, he is in a stable condition following surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Big Papi will be around for a long time.”
Two other people were wounded during the ambush, including Jhoel López, a television host.
Police have detained multiple people in connection with the shooting, including one person who was captured and beaten by bystanders.
